No Capes!!

I know Halloween was almost 3 months ago...oh well. I wanted to be Edna Mode from The Incredibles. So I begged Dean to be Mr. Incredible. And my awesome husband found a Mr. Incredible spandex suit online and actually bought it!!!! Now to confess, these pictures were taken way after Halloween. On the actual Halloween day, we forgot to take pictures and Dean's suit hadn't arrived. So he wore khaki pants, a button down shirt over a red t-shirt that had the Incredibles logo on it, and a black mask. I had NO idea that he had actually purchased the spandex suit until we took these pictures! I kind of wish that we had taken pictures the day of. My hair was the perfect length and my bangs were way shorter just like Edna's. But I think I would rather have Dean in his full costume.

Even though we only had 4 kids stop by to trick-or-treat, it was a really fun night for us.

Oh and did you know that Edna is half Japanese? We have a lot more in common than I thought!

Our Apartment

My mom is making some curtains for our apartment and I needed to send her some photos. And my kind friend Analisa let me use her camera so I can update my design portfolio. So I took the chance to get some photos around the apartment. (Our bedroom was too messy so no photos there!)

I got the acoustic guitar for Dean for Christmas. And yes, that is a washer and dryer in our kitchen. But we love them. And we don't complain about it because we don't have to go to a coin laundry.

I have brothers that won't tell me what they want besides cash, a sister that isn't a girly girl and has a very interesting taste, and parents that either they doesn't really care to get more stuff or feel bad making me spend money on them.

1. Vignelli's Stendig Calendar. At the end of the year, I use it for gift wrapping.

2. Beard Cap. Do you think I could handle wearing it as a girl?

4. Lobsters. I didn't know you could actually order lobsters online.

5. Hamburger Press. For the meat lovers who season and grill their own burgers.

6. Pizza Stone. I was surprised when I saw Dean take a frozen pizza and stick it directly on the oven rack. It made a mess afterwards. This is so your brother doesn't have to clean the oven.

1. Heath Ceramics House Number Tiles. If I had a lot of money, I would get the entire collection. Perfect for parents with a permanent address.

2. Bedside Carafe. A set of 2 would make a nice gift.

3. Cheese of the Month Club Membership. This was a success with Dean's dad.

4. Max Brenner Hug Mug Hot Chocolate Set. This is such a cute way to drink hot chocolate. Not to mention how delicious their hot chocolate is.

5. Kiwi Shoe Shine Kit. For your dad that loves to have shiny shoes.

6. Hanging Plant Kit. An indoor garden for the winter time.

7. Custom Return Address Rubber Stamps. I designed one for my wedding and loved it. If you don't want to design one, check this calligraphy one out.

8. Moleskine Desk Calendar. This is great for your mom in the kitchen or for your dad in his office. I kept one at work this past year, and it was really useful.

9. iPhoto Book. If your parents are more sentimental, this is a great one. Since I got married this year, I'm getting my parents/grandparents a book with all my wedding photos in it. It's quick and easy to use.

10. Koostik Natural Amplifier. This is going to be my next purchase for my iPhone.

FOR SISTERS

1. Teapot. Isn't it cute? I love it. Tempted to buy one for myself.

2. Zag Tray. I also want this for myself. Right Now.

3. Scotch Naturals Nail Polish. Last year, it was Essie. This year, it's Scotch.

4. Japanese Brass Bike Bell. If your sister has a bike, this would be a great gift. I want one and I don't even have a bike anymore.

5. Hanging Nests. This is another cute hanging planter. Love the color too.

6. Perforated Placemats and Napkins. Great for picnics or a casual lunch!

7. Penguin Hardcover Fitzgerald Series. I'm collecting the Fitzgerald series and the Hardcover Classics series. The book covers make me wish I had designed them.

8. Mason Jar Shakers. It took me 2 months to find a S&P shaker set that I loved. These were worth the wait.

9. Turkish Bath Towels. Love the colors and the patterns. And they look soft.

10. Celestial Coasters. I recommend going to the store and hand-selecting a set.

Raspberry Goodness 2

Remember this post? After spending way too much money on Simply Juice Raspberry Lemonades, I decided to try and make my own fresh raspberry lemonade! I came across this recipe on google (Amanda's Cooking). The raspberry lemonade turned out delicious!

I tend to like things a little less sugary and I wanted to be able to taste the raspberries more so I modified the recipe a bit:

6 medium lemons
1 1/2 - 2 cups mashed fresh raspberries
1 cup white sugar
4 1/2 cups water

1. Make a simple syrup. Pour 3/4 cup of sugar & 1 cup water into a saucepan. Stir and bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves. Turn off heat and cool.

2. Mash the raspberries and pour 1/4 cup of sugar over it. Let them sit for at least ten minutes to macerate.

3. Extract lemon juice. I cut up the lemons in half and used this beauty from Crate&Barrel to squeeze out the lemon juice. Amanda made a suggestion to zest the lemons and freezing them for some other use. I like to take the juiced lemons and putting them down my disposal to make my kitchen smell nice.

4. Pour the lemon juice through a strainer to eliminate the pulp and any seeds. Pour the juice into a 2 quart pitcher.

5. Push the macerated berries through a strainer using the back of a spoon. Pour the sweetened berry juice into the pitcher with the lemon juice.

6. Pour in the simple syrup (sugar water) into the pitcher and mix with about 3 1/2 cups of water. You can adjust the amount of water according to your taste.

7. Refrigerate & Enjoy! (Don't worry, this recipe made double the amount shown in the pitcher. I drank half of it before I realized I should take a picture before it's all in my tummy).

Roadtrip with my coworkers #1

My coworkers and I + Dean went on a day trip. But my friend definitely tells the story way better than I can so I'm going to let her tell the story. (Guys, she's a copywriter. She writes scripts and clever taglines. My writing capability of a designer can't compete with that.)

But hey, if a white Blondy wore the exact same outfit, with my haircut, and a holga camera around her neck, she would look like a normal artsy girl. NOT FAIR.

Raspberry Goodness!

Sorry, I accidentally deleted the post! So I'm rewriting this.

I've always wanted to go berry picking. Luckily, Saturday was the perfect weather to go pick some raspberries. I heard from a friend about a farm in Spanish Fork where you can pick your own raspberries.

Dean and I had so much fun picking berries. We ended up picking 5 pounds of raspberries! The couple who runs the farm were so nice, they gave us a discount on the berries we picked. They even threw in some tomatoes for free!

When we got home, I decided I wanted to make some jam. This was my first time making jam all by myself so it was really exciting. I made 8 jars of jam and we still have plenty of raspberries left! If any of you have any suggestions on what I can make with raspberries, let me know!

Also, you can get a glimpse of how I've decorated the kitchen/dining area. The white & gold prints you see on the wall are from one of my favorite design studios, seesawdesign. They used to be a 2011 calendar but I couldn't wait until next year to frame them so I cheated!

PS. I am officially back to blogging now that pre/post wedding madness is over! And no, I have not forgotten the promise I made about posting my wedding pictures. I just have so many that I can't choose which ones to share!

PS. Lately I've been feeling a little down about Etsy. I feel like it's starting to get over-rated. I'll find a few vintage etsy shops that may have a few items that I think are ok but other than that, my feelings for etsy has slowly been dying. Until I saw this shop! They seriously have the cutest collections of everything. Not to mention that the photography is great and the pages are categorized by COLOR!!!!! LOVE IT Rox & Sam!

My friend Amanda (she's a great designer!) had this on her blog post. And I decided to give it a shot although I have terrible luck when it comes to winning things.

I've actually been to Paris twice in my life. But both times I wished I got to explore the city beyond all the tourist spots. If I go next time, it'll be nice to have a local be my tour guide!

THE STORY.

I apologize in advance for taking so long to post this. And another apology for the lack of cheesy-ness and perhaps all the gushy, mushy details I have left out. (And sorry for any cheesy stuff that was left in the story. After all, it is a cheesy story and it was kind of hard to leave the cheesy parts out without telling you the story.) WARNING: This story has been extremely simplified.

May 29: The Break

Dean: Can I have some time to think about our relationship? I just don't know how I feel anymore.
Me: (PANIC!) ok. yeah. that's cool. (fine. maybe i shed a tear of two)

after a week of not seeing each other or talking to each other...

June 4: The Un-break

I tell Dean how I feel and how I love him and that I want to keep dating him. Dean tells me about the week and how he had a hard time figuring out what to do. I'm expecting him to break up with me so I start emotionally prepping myself not to cry.

Dean: So yeah...I just didn't know and I wasn't getting answers...and I was just so distracted the whole week and couldn't focus on anything and was miserable...and last night I just said I don't care anymore...

Me: (deep breath. here we go. don't cry when he says he wants to end things...)

Dean: ...and the earliest we'd be able to get married would be next April but I wanna be with you.

Me: (long pause with a very confused brain) .........wait. So...you're not breaking up with me?

Dean: ...ah...no? Not unless you want to? (Also a little confused to my reaction.)

Me: wait...what? (Around this time, the word "get married" finally registers). WHAT?

Dean: (a little concerned) ah...do you want to marry me?

Me: YES!

So we go to dinner while I'm still a little confused about the "get married" part. Later that night, he's ready to take me home. Right as I'm about to get in his car, he pulls me aside, and asks me the question.

Dean: Will you marry me?

Me: YES!

But Dean and I decided that we wouldn't tell anyone about our engagement until he had a chance to talk to my dad. And the sweet guy he is, he wanted to talk to my dad face to face. The earliest we were able to go to Austin with his DAT (dental test) craziness was at the end of August after school ended. But now we can tell everyone that

WE'RE ENGAGED!

We'll be getting married in the San Antonio, Texas Temple April 30.

Anatomy of Architecture

My BFA show was about relating 2 seemingly unrelated subjects and connecting the two by the use of symbols. I compared a human body to a building and created 7 symbols: heart, brain, skin, lungs, veins, skeleton, and muscles of a building. I placed all the symbols throughout the HFAC to their corresponding places. These symbols also became the advertising for the exhibit.

Asian Stories

Have I ever told you my Asian stories? If not, get excited! Actually don't. Because mostly this is how an Asian story goes.

A random Asian: hi. are you Korean/Chinese/Taiwanese/Vietnamese/Everything except Japanese
Me: Uh...no. Sorry.
The random Asian: oh...(with a very disappointed tone of voice). Where are you from?
Me: well, I was born in L.A. but I consider Austin, TX my home.
The random Asian: oh...(even more disappointed) ok. What nationality are you?
Me: Japanese.
The random Asian: oh ok...sorry. ha ha ha ha ha ha.... (You know that Asian laugh that I'm talking about).

So about a week ago, I am walking to my work when a boy (an eager Freshmen to be exact) approaches me. Side Note: Now for those of you not at BYU, it is EXTREMELY easy for all of us to spot a freshmen boy because all men between 19-21 are gone on missions. So a boy is either a boy that looks like he needs to go back to high school or a man that seems like he's grown up a bit.

The random boy: Hi. Are you Chinese?
Me: no. sorry I'm Japanese.
Boy: Oh...ok. Were you born in Japan?
Me: No...I was born in L.A. but I consider Austin my home.
Boy: oh...do you speak any Japanese?
Me: yeah...I lived there for a little bit so....
(2 minutes of small talk happens while he follows me towards my work building)
Boy: well, sorry. I'm taking Chinese 101 and I thought you were Chinese so I wanted to talk to you. Well, I'm going this way so bye! (As he walks back the way we came).

I told Dean about this Asian story and totally forgot about it as the story was banked to my long list of Asian stories. But today, I was walking home from work when I hear:

Mysterious random freshmen boy: Hi. Are you Chinese?
Me: No...sorry.
Random eager freshmen boy: Oh are you from Taiwan?
Me: no
Random freshmen boy: Vietnam?
Me: no...sorry, I'm Japanese.
(here, I can't help but feel as though I'm having a deja vu moment...)
Eager freshmen boy: Oh ok. were you born in Japan?
Me: no, I was born here.
Eager freshmen boy: oh ok.
(and here, is where I realize that I just talked to this boy last week and had this exact same conversation!)
Mr. eager Chinese 101 boy: Oh well, I'm taking Chinese 101 right now and I was just wondering so...bye!
Me: good luck with that!

Yes, I am working on my BFA and yes, my show is still going up next week...WHAT?

I'm taking History of Interior Design and Architecture right now. I don't think I've ever loved history so much in my life. I love learning about beautiful things! And not awful, people-killing wars. But one bad thing is that it makes me want more beautiful things that are so expensive that the chances of me having all of them is close to not happening anytime soon.

I wanted to get one for my friends one of these babies because she's obsessed with miniature versions of designer chairs. (Can be purchased here)

Back in November 2009, Thanksgiving week, I promised myself I wouldn't go shopping until my birthday. Yesterday, I was reminded by my favorite Banana Republic that my birthday is this month. They send me a gift certificate every March to lure me into their store. So, naturally, I went online to see what fabulous new collection they're coming out with. DISAPPOINTED! (Of course, except for the $300+ hooded leather jacket I spoke of earlier today. But even with my gift certificate it costs as much as my rent! So that's an automatic no.) I'm hoping they'll have better stuff by the end of the month. BR don't let me down!

But then maybe I'll buy a book that I've been wanting for awhile.

Or that letterpress machine I've been wanting. (Although I was quite disappointed by whoever printed the samples at some scrap booking store. So that may also be a no.)

Don't get me wrong. I like the idea of kids but...
1. I don't know how to deal with crying people, especially crying kids.
2. Sometimes little kids (specifically ages 6-17) annoy me ALOT.
3. I can't stand drama. So if my future daughter comes to me about boy drama, I'll just say suck it up.
4. I LOVE LOVE LOVE furniture that is definitely not kid friendly. And if my kids destroy my lovely, super expensive furniture, I'll be very very very upset. Not even a scratch. They'll be grounded.
5. When I taught nursery, I didn't get a girl trying to tell me she had to go to the bathroom. She ended up wetting her pants because of me.
6. I like nice clothes and jewelry. From my observation between my younger siblings and my mom, they kept destroying her clothes with drools and vomits and my brothers would always break my mom's jewelry. I can't have that happen to me!
7. Oh yeah, I hate drooling. And taking kids to the bathroom.
8. I hate carrying a purse. How am I supposed to carry a diaper bag?
9. I love wearing heels. I can't be prego and wear heels.
10. I can't stand the idea of a kid sticking everything in their mouth and drooling all over it.

But, I'll definitely let my kids have a really cool room like the one below. And all of their friends can be really JEALOUS.

Today, I was going through my art supplies, trying to organize them into boxes and containers. And I stumbled upon a large glue collection which included:

-3 big bottles of Elmer's glue
-3 large bottles of spray mount
-1 bottle of Japanese glue
-1 large bottle of goo gone
-3 glue sticks
-3 bottles of PVA (bookbinder's) glue

Ridiculous? I think so. But they're all 95% full that it would be so tragic for me to throw them out. My art supply collection gets even better.

-I have enough color pencils, pencils and pens to fill up a box
-I have 3 rolls of tape that I can account for
-I have 5 cutting utensils (exacto knives and scalpels) and three times as many blades for these exactos and scalpels
-I have 4 straight rulers that I can see right now (I know I have at least 5 more somewhere under my bed)
-I have enough foam core to go through another semester of identity and magazine design classes
-I have waaaaaay too many large sheets of expensive paper that I have no idea what to do with but can't throw out because they were $7/sheet
-I have 2 bins full of paints, brushes, and pastels
-And probably other things that I just can't remember

And that's not including my portfolio (failed and successful projects)

-I have 3 large portfolio bags full of my art/design work
-2 boxes full of packaging/3D work
-1 large bin full of magazine/identity/2D work

And that's not including my projects that I have at my work.

So what am I to do? Throw them all out? How could I when I don't even have my portfolio finalized. And even when it turns out bad, you've spent way too many sleepless nights on those unsuccessful projects that you just can't throw them all out. They're still my babies.

The first thing I will do when I get there, is ride a cab, purchase a grand piano and a hot New York appropriate outfit, and then head over to Times Square and play the piano standing up in my hot New York appropriate outfit.

And then I will eat yummy food.

So, in my new room, I have a little secret room. It is this little tiny space that happens to be right under the stairs. Just imagine Harry Potter's little secret room under the stairs. That's kind of what it feels like. I decided to turn that room into a little library/art gallery. I store all of my pretty glass bottles and vases. It really looks pretty in there. And when the sun is out and it hits the little secret room at the right angle, it looks gorgeous. I have placed 1/3 of my book collection in the room (mainly art/design/architecture books). I love it. When I have a little more time (maybe Thanksgiving week?), my goal is to go buy some foam to make cushions and place battery-operated lights in there so I can actually read and look at my books.

I was just blogging and came across this. I want a library like this in my house when I grow up.

-Listening to the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack.

Was the movie awesome?
-Seriously? Why do you even ask? It was the best thing ever! I loved it! And I would go see it again. I would even purchase that movie when it comes out. It was just amazing. (Let's just say...I may have...shed a tear or two...or three....) If you didn't like it, don't even bother talking to me ever again. If you're even questioning whether you liked it or not, don't even bother talking to me until you decide that you loved it.

My mom finished the costume yesterday!!!! She's sending it in the mail today. If the post office/mail man loses my package, I will personally go after them. And don't worry, I will be more adorable and happier than this little boy. (Although I do admit, he's pretty adorable).

Great Finds: Now, I will let you in on a little secret if you promise me to get ME something from this store for Christmas...or birthday....

Dean comes over today and tells me he has a surprise for me. He holds out a piece of paper with a receipt from Fandango for 2 tickets to Where the Wild Things Are. He beat me to it! He's so on top of things. We always play fight about whether I get to pay for things or not. I lose 99% of the time. So I thought this time, I would win for sure! I space out for less than 24 hours and of course, he wins. The receipt is now on my fridge.

My sister and I were talking on the phone today. My mom is making me a Max Wild costume. Unfortunately it won't make it for the opening night but I'll still get to wear it for Halloween.
Miya: you should wear it when you go see the movie.
Me: yeah but I won't have it in time because I'm going to see it this week.
Miya: oh, well you should still wear it the second time you go to see it.
Me: Don't people usually only dress up for the opening night?
Miya: Oh yeah, but that's totally something I would do still. Even a few months later when it's out in the dollar theater.
Me: yeah...me too. I would totally do that.

According to this one article my roommate made me read, creative people are very well aware of the social norm. HOWEVER, they still do things against the social norm. I'm a creative = the above might happen. Come look for me at the dollar theater opening night in a few months.

Also, everyone knows that I've been excited about this movie for a VERY LONG TIME.
Miya: I keep listening to people talk at school about how they just saw the trailer to the movie and wanted to go see it. I keep wanting to tell them "Well, whatever, my sister's been wanting to see that movie waaaaaaay longer than you have."

I was blogging and came across an illustrator Stephanie Levy featured on MINT. I visited her etsy shop and look what I found! They are illustrated designer chair cards!

And yes, I immediately purchased them. They are on their way from Germany.

I am often told that I like things that are nice and unique. It's a blessing when it comes to designing something. It's a curse when I walk into a store. I usually don't like to take a lot of time shopping. I know what I want when I see it. I remember in Italy, I used to tell my friends that when I walk into a store, the items will speak to me. If there's something I'm going to like in a store, the moment I walk in, I can sense it. I also have this mentality that anything that I love and will love for the rest of my life is worth getting it regardless of the price. (Of course, it still has to be within my bank account limits). Dean often teases me for buying a necklace from Banana Republic that he thought wasn't worth what I paid for. Well Dean, I've worn it almost everyday since I got it and it's a timeless piece ok?

So this is how I generally shop:

I'll walk into a store and if they're lucky I'll stick around.
I'll usually take about 2 minutes to look around the entire store.
By this point, I would have already picked out one or two items I am interested in.
If it requires for me to try it on, I will do so at this point.
Then I would proceed to walk up to the cash register to purchase it.
It's at this precise moment that I'll realize that I haven't checked the price tag yet.
I will do so praying that it would be within my price range.
If it is, LUCKY ME. Usually, it's not. Because of course, (and this is the curse part), I eye things that tend to be the most expensive in the store.

It's not that I like things that is or look expensive. (Well, I do hate fake/fake-looking things). It's just my style and my taste. I can't help it.

So anyone? It's almost my half-birthday.

Dean texted me at work saying I needed to dress nice for a surprise he had planned for me. I'm starting to get used to his surprises. The night before he went home, he took me to The Roof in Salt Lake. I've never been before and it was really nice of him to take me there. I ate so much and the view from the place was amazing. We took a bunch of pictures and got to see the sunset behind the Salt Lake City Temple.

Dean begged me not to delete this picture of me so I kept it.

USA BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

What I did 7/2 - 7/5:

1. Went to Natalie's dessert party. Baked a USA cake. It was delicious. Should have taken a picture of it. Played with sparklers and participated in an intense game of 4 square.

2. Observed hot air balloons from my apartment at 7AM. Decided that I actually wanted to go.

3. Actually went to the balloon fest at 6AM!

4. Hiked Stewart Falls. Dean and Ty decided they wanted to walk through the waterfall.

5. Ate burgers and watched National Treasures. Had some snowcones and brownies and cake. DEFINITELY took a big nap.

6. Went on campus to watch the stadium of fire fireworks. Didn't see the Jonas Brothers.

7. Played with sparklers.

8. More desserts and movie.

9. Wore red/white/blue outfit to church.

10. Played Puerto Rico with more USA desserts.

Definitely one of the best USA birthdays ever. Came close to the one from last year in NY when we made USA Crepes.

I finally fulfilled my dream of going to the Provo City Library. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in Utah. Dean and I decided we would go on a little adventure. We explored every part of the library except for rooms that were locked and doors with signs that read "EMERGENCY EXIT ONLY. ALARM WILL SOUND".

We found some old maps of Provo/Utah in the Special Collections room. Below is one of the many maps Dean had to stop me from stealing.

It was getting dark so these pictures are really blurry but this last one was taken by Dean. He did a good job getting most of the building in the picture.

So I've been intrigued by this one particular flower for the past year. Refer to this entry. Ever since I saw one in the NY Botanical Garden, I've been thinking about where I could even find one. My BFA topic was even inspired by this flower (as you can see below).

This past week, Dean texts me a picture of it. Oh, no big deal. He has some in his backyard. So he brought one back for me. I love it. It's so beautiful. I'm trying to figure out a way to preserve it. Or maybe press it? That makes me nervous though....

EDIT 7/1: The flower started to close after one day so I decided it was time for me to pry it open and press it. It is being pressed currently. Pictures to come....

It's official. I am officially broken. Not broke...well, maybe after today, but broken. Just plain crazy. Lunatic but not bipolar. Just broken and crazy. Like no one should mess with me right now crazy. So what happens when Yooms is broken? I don't know.

I've been trying to get my bambu project printed and comped up all week so I can enter it into a few contests. I think that broke me. I needed to go buy some nice napkins for this project. (Don't ask why). I didn't have time to go to a real store, so I went to the bookstore. And on the way to where the napkins are, I passed by all the sweet art books and discounted books. And I purchased some BIG books. Definitely expensive. Did I even make it to the napkins? NOPE. Did I even care? NOPE.

I've been wanting this book since I went to Italy. Except I think the one I really wanted was the one that is a set with the Uffizi Gallery Museum Collection. So, maybe I'll go return this. But maybe not.

And I bought this because I LOVE anatomy and I LOVED the drawings in the book. (Although I hate the association to the name of a very popular TV show). I really want to change my BFA now. Why didn't I do something on the body? I think I really want to. Definitely NOT a good idea, but I'm insane right now, so I do crazy things.
I also forgot my phone at home today. Usually I get really uncomfortable about not having my phone on me at all times. But no, it was glorious today. I LOVED not being bothered by ANYONE. And all I want to do tonight is just watch Jack Black movies by myself. I might even just stay in my lab and watch them all night. Hmmm.... I kinda like that idea.

After we got back from our design trip in March last year, my class made a NY book containing all of our experiences in NY. I just stumbled upon it today. I collected all of my NY scrap into a cigar box I purchased there, scanned them while they were in the box, and made a little booklet. It took forever to get the scanning right. The only photoshopping I did was to crop the background out.

I love Amazon. Those free super-saver shipping things really don't help either. I really need to get their credit card because I would actually be saving money doing so, but I cannot bring myself to sign up for one. I even went through the process 3 times and ended hitting the cancel button 3 times. But that is not the problem I have.

I love to read. I really wish I had more time for books. I keep a list of books I'm interested in or want to read in my planner/notebook/journal.

Problem #1: So far, I have about 30 books on my list. I have purchased about half of the books on the list and yet I keep purchasing books even before I start the first one. Some may ask, "Why don't you just borrow it from the library?"

Hence Problem #2: I HAVE to purchase what I read. I have to OWN it. It has to be MINE. I would be saving so much money AND trees if I were simply to get a library card and borrow books from the library. I think I don't like the time restraint I get from borrowing a book from the library. You know, the 3 week limit, and if you're not done within 3 weeks, you have to re-check it out. I hate that.

I do have a pretty good list of books right now that I may or may not have read yet. So if you want a book to read, come to my library and I'll let you check a book out for as long as you want.

Story #1
12/24/2008

My family and I were driving to a friend's house to celebrate Christmas Eve with them. We were driving behind a pick-up truck. All of the sudden I see this sedan driving next to us go off the road. As the driver of the sedan tried to get back onto the rode, he lost control of his car and ran into the truck. The truck then bounced and it became immediately clear that the driver of the truck had lost consciousness because the truck drove itself across onto on-coming traffic and only came to a stop when it drove into the ditch on the other side of the highway.

We pulled over, and tried to see if the truck driver was still moving. For the first time in my life, I had to call 911. The conversation went something like this....

APD: 911 what is the location of your emergency?
ME: (panickingly) I just witnessed a car accident!!! I'm on 620 and Great Oaks!!
APD: Oh, that's not in our department. Hold on. Let me transfer you to the right one.
ME: (WHAT?) Ummm...well, ok, please hurry!!!!! The driver of the pick-up is not moving!!
APD: Is anybody hurt?
ME: One of the drivers is not moving!!!!
APD: Ok, hang on.
ME: (hang on? really? she could be bleeding to death right now!!!!)
APD: Ok, we're sending an ambulance over right now.
ME: (wait, what do I do?) OK!?

The driver of the pick-up eventually woke up in shock and was hurt pretty badly but fine enough to call her husband. The ambulance came and took her away and I had to write a witness statement.

Story #2
12/25/2008

My sister was dog sitting for a friend and she felt sorry that the dog would have to sleep alone on Christmas. So I accompanied her to a little sleepover at the friend's house. As we were getting ready to settle down and watch a movie, my sister decided that it would be a good idea to turn on the security system. Well, the motion detector sensed me when I moved and the alarm went off. At first, we thought someone was trying to break into the house but quickly entered the code and the alarm was deactivated. About 20 minutes later, we saw some car lights shining into the house. We were a little nervous but the lights went away after a few minutes so we decided it was just a car making a U-turn. 5 minutes later...

SIS: Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! There's people out there!!!! I see shadows!!!!
ME: (as the dog started barking and running towards the door) What?
SIS: (as flashlights shined into the house) They have flashlights!!!!!
ME: Oh my gosh!!!!!! I see people!!!!
SIS: QUICK! Run into the bathroom!!!
ME: What?
SIS: (goes into the kitchen and grabs a big knife) Go into the bathroom and call 911!
ME: Ok, ok, I'm calling them.

APD: 911 what is your emergency?
ME: We see people outside! My sister and I are house-sitting and we see people with flashlights!
APD: What is your address?
ME: Crap, I don't know! I just know it's on Walhill Cove near Anderson High School.
APD: Who is the owner of the house?
ME: John Smith! Oh my gosh! They're ringing the doorbell now!
APD: Is it on 1234 Walhill Cove?
ME: Ah maybe!!
APD: Oh, ok. They're just police officers ma'am.
ME: What??
APD: Apparently, the alarm went off at your house, so these officers were checking on you.
ME: Oh, I'm sorry. We just really freaked out.

And yes, every person we've told this story to have said, "Wait, that was the first thing I thought of. Police officers checking on you guys!" Fine, think what you want but at the moment it was scary!

In Preparation For My Portfolio Review.

So, you may be wondering, what the crap is she doing blogging if she has a portfolio review coming up?

For those of you who may not know what that is, it is where all the faculty members of the Graphic Design Department look at everything you've done so far and give you critiques...as in tear everything apart and tell you that you have a lot to improve on.

This lovely event that we designers lose about 150 hours of sleep a week for about a month before the event, happens to be taking place on the first reading day. And if you go to BYU, where they only give you 2 reading days (which one of them happens to be on a SATURDAY), you end up with NO reading days.

But that's ok.

What is not ok is people not knowing what we do or who we are. And what I mean by that is that we are GRAPHIC DESIGNERS. We DESIGN.

We are not:

graphicS design ARTISTS
graphic ARTISTS

When potential clients call me one of the above or anything that is not GRAPHIC DESIGNER, I lose interest in them and when asked if I am interested in working for them, I kindly decline the offer.

So, if you're planning on hiring a GRAPHIC DESIGNER, be aware not to call them the wrong thing, because most likely, I'm not the only one who will kindly decline your offer.

Body Worlds.

Last night, I went to the Body Worlds exhibit in Salt Lake. Ever since I heard about the exhibit in NY, I've been dying to go see it. So last night, I was definitely like a little child on Christmas morning. As you can tell from the picture above, my favorites were the ones showing only the veins and the arteries. You could even see the tongue inside! Everything was done so intricately. They all looked amazing I couldn't resist touching them. I touched two human bodies and a camel. Now they are officially on the list of artworks I have illegally touched. (I'm not gonna lie, I was a bit surprised by the little supervision throughout the whole exhibit.)

Sometimes, early in the morning (usually between 1 am and 6am), I get depressed seeing that I'm the only person on Gchat. I usually go invisible at this point. Usually, these are the nights before Adrian's class and I am up late trying to make magic design happen so that I can show him some work that he can take a glimpse at and say, "well, this is a better direction isn't it?" So as an anti-depressant, I naturally come to blog so that I can feel like I'm at least typing something that will maybe be read by 1 or 2 people.

Today, I received a phone call from one of my best friends Randalyn. We have been friends since high school. The first time she called, she left a message saying that she had something to tell me. After having so many of my close friends get married, I know the tone of voice and what that "something to tell me" entails. I called her back only to get her voice mail. A little bit later, we were finally able to get in touch and I got so excited I was jumping up and down around my apartment. So congratulations Randalyn + Andrew. I've met Andrew several times and they are so great for eachother. I couldn't be happier for them.

So here are some of my closest friends that got married this year. It really makes me happy to know that they are happy. Congratulations to all of you. (And yes, I did steal these photos via facebook and other means.)

I just found these pictures last week. Please don't be offended if you're not on here. I think the rest of my pictures are still in my photo box or it's waiting in line to be scanned. And note that these pictures are up in my apartment. Feel special.

Back in the Day.

I'm not quite sure what triggered it but on Thursday, I decided that I was in dire need of putting up new pictures in my room. (I even skipped class...woops). In the process of looking through my photo box, I found some pictures that I had neglected for awhile.

The first one is a picture of me in my lion costume for Halloween. I was 2.5 years old. My parents and their best friends had a son (Kevin) that was my age as well, so naturally, we had matching costumes. If you look closely in the background, he is standing there in his lion suit.

The second picture is of me and my friend Meredith at a sleepover at her place. We always wore those frilly PJ's and slept with our favorite Troll Dolls. I remember that Mere had a whole wall of troll dolls and I envied her for that. I wonder what happened to our collection of Trolls. I decided I'm going to incorporate this picture of us together for my response to her BFA project. It's a really cool idea. Check it out. http://www.correspondenceproject.blogspot.com/

And her project has some meaning to me as well because of a story my parents once told Mere and her family about how they wrote love letters to each other before they got married. If you want to hear the story, just ask me but it's a bit too long and romantic for me to handle posting it on my blog.

I used to be able to stay up all night. You know, pull all-nighters 2, 3 times a week and my body and my mind still felt fine. I am realizing lately that my body is getting old. Very old.

I have lost the capability of staying up past 2 am. After that, I am an empty robot that cannot function in any way. Also, after 11 pm, I lose the capablity of typing my thoughts accurately.
This means absolutely no blogging, facebooking, texting, gchatting, and definitely no writing papers for my English class. Let me give you examples of what happens when I break this rule past 11 pm.

1. I send facebook messages to people that I barely know about absolutely nothing.
2. I text things like "sometimes I hate you and sometimes I love you" to random people.
3. I mistype on gchat: not instead of now and god instead of good.

To expand on numero 3, this is what happens.

Bob: I have a blog.
Me: Really? Let me look at it. Sweet. Well, you're not on my list of friends so feel special.
Bob: I'm not? How does that make me feel special?
Me: Because you're not my friend.
Bob: I'm hurt. Are you trying to end this friendship?
Me: What? I'm really confused. Oh, I meant now.

Jane: How are you?
Me: I'm god.
Jane: ...oh ok. You're god?
Me: What? Why would I be god? Oh, I meant I'm good.

It seems that after 11 pm, I type not and god but I still read them as now and good. Therefore, I don't catch that I have typed the worng word and end up jeapordizing several friendships.

The point is, I should be working on my design stuff for Adrian, so I don't have to stay up late tonight and hurt more friendships.
